Advantages of High-Strength Ductile Iron GGG60 (EN-GJS-600-3) in Heavy Tractor Housings
A metallurgical evaluation of nodular graphite formation in ductile cast iron GGG60 and its superior mechanical damping properties in tractor chassis components.
Microstructural Architecture of Ductile Spheroidal Iron
In conventional grey cast iron (GG25), graphite precipitates as sharp-edged flakes which act as internal stress concentrators. By introducing magnesium and ferro-silicon inoculants into the induction melt, graphite crystallizes into uniform spherical nodules (nodular graphite).
Mechanical Properties of GGG60 / EN-GJS-600-3 Grade
- Tensile Strength: In excess of 600 MPa (matching standard structural steels).
- Yield Strength: Over 370 MPa with an elongation of 3–7%, preventing crack propagation.
- Vibration Damping Capacity: Absorbs mechanical harmonic vibrations up to 3 times more effectively than cast steel, directly dampening driveline acoustic resonance.
- Casting Fluidity: Superior melt fluidity enabling complex thin-walled housing casting with enhanced weight-to-strength ratios.
Metallurgical QA at PSNT Foundry Lab
The PSNT metallurgy laboratory monitors graphite nodularity via digital metallographic image analysis, strictly guaranteeing nodularity rates exceeding 90% across all differential carrier castings.
